About our Adventure!

Puppy Love <3

This new adventure has been so much fun. These little ones bring joy to our little farm. A bit of a learning curve, from deworming to learning about puppy nutrition. Lots of research and time go into creating a thriving environment for these little ones.

I want to have transparency within my business. I am still learning and I do not know everything about breeding. With that being said, I have made some mistakes and have not followed every supposed "protocol". There are breeders who keep the Mama and puppies inside for the birth and after. There are breeders who choose to keep Mama and the puppies outside in a secure location. I am doing what works for our little farm.

    Puppy Statistics

    Puppy Whelping Area

Our breeding LGDs are in a pen primarily with goats and chickens. A week before Mama's due date, she started digging a massive den under the goat's house. She was beginning to nest and prepare a birthing area.

We set up a kennel, laid pavers down for the floor, fenced, and netted a 20x10-foot area within the goat pen. The kennel has a side door allowing Mama and the puppies to go outside. The beginning of May was chilly, so we stacked straw bales and built a platform to go on top. Under the platform, I set up a EZ whelp birthing box.

The weather warmed up, and the puppies are getting big enough to climb out of their area. We reorganized the kennel, removed the whelping box, and added straw as bedding. The puppies have now found their spot to sleep in their pen.

    Puppy Stats

    Puppy Weights-

I weighed the puppies for the first time at 2 days old. In the beginning, I weighed the puppies twice a week. Then, once a week. As the puppies get older, I will be weighing them either weekly or bi-weekly.

    Puppy Deworming Schedule-

This is one of the areas I was unaware of. As I was new to this adventure we got a late start to deworming. The typical schedule calls for Mamas to be dewormed at the beginning of their heat cycle and at 50-52 days of gestation. The typical schedule calls for the puppies to be dewormed at 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 weeks.

Due to my lack of knowledge, Mama and the puppies started their 3 day cycle of deworming on May 29th, 2025. The puppies were 3 weeks old.

    Puppy Nail Trimming-

Each puppy's reaction was different. Their first nail trimming was done with a Dremel on Monday June 9th, 2025. They were a month old and started scratching up Mama's belly.
